{"id":1446,"date":"2021-09-28T20:23:09","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T20:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.jedidjahjulianoomen.nl\/?p=1446"},"modified":"2022-03-02T14:50:29","modified_gmt":"2022-03-02T14:50:29","slug":"women-in-games-panel-unwrap-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jedidjahjulianoomen.nl\/?p=1446","title":{"rendered":"Women in Games panel Unwrap Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I was happy to be one of the panelists on the Game for Thought panel during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwrap.be\/\">Unwrap Festival<\/a> in Kortrijk, Belgium, on the 14th of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Howest Digital Arts &amp; Entertainment (DAE) last academic year unveiled a new project called \u2018Game for Thought\u2019 \u2013 a monthly livestream and podcast series tackling ethically-relevant topics in the industry. They launched season 2 with a panel live from the Unwrap festival, also streamed via<strong>\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.twitch.tv\/howest_dae\/\" target=\"_blank\">Twitch<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What is the current status of women in the game industry (both in company-bound and freelance work environments) \u2013 and how has this evolved over the past 5, 10, or 15 years? How have female leads in the industry experienced \u2013 or not experienced \u2013 stereotype threat and bias, and what pieces of advice might they share to young female developers\/designers? Why should the topic of women in games be approached in the first place?
